What are common reasons for replacing my vehicle’s Headlamp Assembly?

A car engine burns a mixture of petrol and air. Petrol is pumped along a pipe from the tank and mixed with air in the carburettor , from which the engine sucks in the mixture.

In the fuel-injection system, used on some engines, the petrol and air are mixed in the inlet manifold .

The pump may be mechanical worked by the engine – or it may be electric, in which case it is usually next to or even inside the fuel tank .


For safety, the petrol tank is placed at the opposite end of the car from the engine.

Inside the tank, a float works an electrical sender unit that transmits current to the fuel gauge, signalling how much petrol is in the tank.

The tank has an air vent – usually a pipe or a small hole in the filler cap to allow air in as the tank empties. Some of the latest systems have a carbon filter , so that fuel fumes do not escape.


An automotive charging system is made up of three major components: the battery, the voltage regulator and an alternator. The alternator works with the battery to generate power for the electrical components of a vehicle, like the interior and exterior lights, and the instrument panel. An alternator gets its name from the term alternating current (AC).

Alternators are typically found near the front of the engine and are driven by the crankshaft, which converts the pistons’ up-and-down movement into circular movement. Some early model vehicles used a separate drive belt from the crankshaft pulley to the alternator pulley, but most cars today have a serpentine belt, or one belt that drives all components that rely on crankshaft power. Most alternators are mounted using brackets that bolt to a specific point on the engine. One of the brackets is usually a fixed point, while the other is adjustable to tighten the drive belt.


AEM’s Universal Core V8 Wiring engine harness (PN 30-3805) is terminated with Infinity Series 7 ECU connectors, power/ground leads and an OEM power distribution block with 5 relays and 7 fuses. Special care was taken to build redundancy into the power distribution system to increase overall reliability.

High-Performance DTM-Style connectors terminate the leads for dual UEGO wideband air/fuel ratio sensors, wheel speed sensors, AEMnet (AEM’s CAN bus), dual 8-pin auxiliary ports, cam & crank, idle, injectors and coils sub harnesses. High-Performance DTM-Style connectors and pins are included for the auxiliary ports. Flying leads are included for permanent and switched power, manifold pressure (MAP), oil pressure, fuel pressure, air temperature, coolant temperature and throttle position.

The wiring is covered in an automotive-grade loom for enhanced longevity and the power/ground leads are heavy-duty serrated versions to ensure the best connection. A firewall grommet is included for a clean pass-through. All wires and connectors are labeled for ease of installation.
